Just last week, we faced temperatures -16̊ F and below. Bitterly cold and frigid, the one week of this winter that we had snow. This week, temperatures soared above 64̊ F and all the snow melted. Suffice to say, this winter has really made me dislike the Midwest. But I won’t lie, these warmer days have been so delicious and revitalizing to my soul. We even had a thunderstorm last night, a weather phenomenon I’m especially partial too. Must be the Midwesterner in me.
Just the other day, Little Lion and I took a walk around the lake. His snowboots finally arrived (I forgot to order them in November with the rest of his snow gear) and he stomped and splashed in the mud and puddles. We walked to the park and took off our shoes and ran around the playground. It was that warm. And it was so refreshing, after being cooped up inside all winter or taking abbreviated walks, to finally get out for a good, long walk. We were gone over two hours, enjoying the fresh air. It was a wonderful day.
If you’re from the Midwest, you’ll know that these deliciously warm, spring-like days are just a sweet, short-lived experience before the bitter cold returns. So until the winds shift and blow in another freeze, we’ll soak up these warm days as much as we can.
